Mrs. B, Substitute Grandma

“It’s not fair, Mrs. B” said Katy.

“What’s not fair?” asked Mrs. B.

“Dee gets to ride the wagon, but we have to ride on the bus” answered Katy.

“What wagon and what bus?” asked Mrs. B.

“Our class is going on a field trip tomorrow” explained Andi. “We’re going to pick apples and run through the corn.”

“If a grownup goes with us we get to ride the hay wagon. If not we have to ride a bus the whole time” added Katy.

“My grandma was going with us, but she’s sick and can’t go” Andi said.

“So we have to ride on a bus” cried Katy. “Dee’s mom is going so she gets to ride the wagon. It’s not fair, Mrs. B. Dee gets to do everything. I hate her.”

Mrs. B sat down between the girls. “No, you don’t hate her. If you hate people it makes you just like Dee. Besides, God tells us to love one another, not to hate. You might not like Dee, but you don’t hate her. And you’re right. Life isn’t always fair. However, I may be able to help you with the wagon problem. Let me make a phone call.”
