"I remember having some of the best popcorn I had ever tasted, and hearing for the first time, "Puff the Magic Dragon" by Peter, Paul and Mary. I genuinely loved that song, and even as I'm writing these words down, I wasn't sure why, perhaps until now. I think that time, the third grade, whatever age you are in the third grade, was my last memory of innocence. If you listen to the words of the song, it is about growing older, and putting away childish games and childish ways. It's about growing up to face a real world, and no time for frolicking with dragons or imagining wonderful places anymore. It has been some years since I have tried to sing that song. My husband, Charlie, will attest to the fact that since he has known me, I haven't been able to sing that song out loud without getting choked up and tears welling in my eyes. Maybe I'll try it again later, someday."

Lisa Hudson is a businesswoman, wife, mother, grandmother, and writer. This story was written for her children and grandchildren. Lisa and her husband, Charlie, own C&L Recycling, Inc. in Clarksville, Tennessee. Lisa and Charlie have been married for twenty-four years, and both are active members of Gum Springs Baptist Church in Cunningham, Tennessee.
