Because He Loved Me

An Interview with Alexis Judy

When I was 16 I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma cancer. When I was in the hospital, the one thing that people brought me more than anything else was journals and pens. They said, “You have a gift, use it.” I had a mom whose child had been through cancer at a very young, age and she said to me, even though it doesn’t seem like I’m going to want to remember everything I’m going through, there will come a point when I want to remember it so I needed to write about it. I went home and I started journaling and really shortly after that, into the journaling process, God really laid it on my heart that one day it would become a published book.

Getting Published

I knew that I didn’t want someone who was going to read what I had written and want to change it, even if it was for better marketing or for better sales. That didn’t matter to me because it’s not why I published. I published because I felt the call to, and I wanted to write something that other people could relate to. I felt like other people would relate to this if it was real and raw, and just how I felt.

The WestBow Press Experience

WestBow was so patient and so kind. They really had my best interest at heart and made sure I was pleased with everything that happened throughout the whole process. Nothing was rushed or forced but, at the same time, they kept me on track and kept me focused.

Women of Faith

The book signing experience with Women of Faith in Washington D.C. was incredible. It was definitely something I would classify as a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Seeing how many people are affected by cancer and who need a piece of hope to get them through was just awesome – to be able to be there and look them in the eye and say, “I have something for you;” to be able to get into conversations with them about their own personal experience with what I went through – it was awesome.

The love of Christ is central to everything – to every choice, to everything that we’re going through in life. I would say the one takeaway would be to rely on the love of Christ and to allow that love to transform you and then empower you to change the world through love.
