The Choice

It is a cold December night. In fact it is Christmas Eve. This is supposed to be the time of year when you feel happy and spend time with your family celebrating the passing of one year into another. There is a young girl who is not feeling the excitement for the holidays. She is sitting alone in her dark cold room trying to make the most important decision of her life. She is sitting on the cold floor in the darkness rocking back and forth. Her trembling hands are rubbing her stomach that contains a small miracle. Her eyes are red and swollen from all the tears she has cried. In her head she is going over all her options. She so wants to keep this baby but is afraid her parents are going to make her give him up. In the beginning of her pregnancy the father of the baby offered to pay for an abortion but she did not believe in that. Now she has visited the adoption agencies and learned of all the couples wishing for a baby. She knows that they would give her baby all the things she couldn't. Deep down inside her heart she knows she can't part with this baby. She loves him too much. She wants the to be able to name him, see his first steps, hear his little voice whisper mama and watch all of his accomplishments as he grows. This decision is more then she can take. Her mournful cries keep getting louder. Just then a quiet knock is heard on her door. Her mother in a quiet voice asks if she can come in. The young girl still looking at the floor tells her mother she can come in. Her mother enters the dark room well aware of all the brokenness her daughter is consumed with. The mother tells her that they need to talk. The daughter full of anger and hurt spouts off, "haven't we made my decision hard enough?" the mother with a gentle loving voice tells the daughter to look at her. There in the mother's arms is something that surprises her. They rush into each other's arms. It was time....to make her choice.
