Andy turned Benny in to the shelter of a stand of trees and stopped. Claudia Rose held her breath. She didn’t know what Andy was up to, but she knew it must be something special.
Andy turned toward her. Although in the darkness they couldn’t see one another clearly, Andy’s eyes locked onto Claudia Rose’s. “I’ve been thinking and praying,” Andy’s voice was soft. “You must know I love you.”
Claudia Rose’s heart soared. Finally. Andy had said the words her heart had longed to hear for so long. “I love you too,” she whispered.
Then they were in each other’s arms. Their kisses were soft, gentle, and sweet until Andy’s arms tightened and the pressure of his lips increased. Claudia Rose responded.
“With all my heart I love you,” Andy whispered against Claudia Rose’s ear.
“I’ve loved you for so long,” Claudia rose sighed. “Were you unsure? Why did you wait so long to tell me?”
Andy pulled back slightly, keeping one arm around her he replied, “The war. The confounded war. Now that Abe Lincoln’s been elected, the South is bound to secede. If there’s war I’m going to fight for the Union, and I’ve been so unsettled. All these months I’ve been wrestling with what would be most fair to you. But like I said, I’ve been praying really hard, and I came to the conclusion that I had to let you know how I feel.”

About the Book
Claudia Rose Pickett is a young woman who lives through the Civil War on a farm near Bloomfield, Missouri. She experiences all the horrors of war, including the death of neighbors and family members, destruction of property, intense fear, and hunger.
Her fiancé, Andy Norton, fights for the Union. When they become engaged, Claudia Rose expects to get married right away, but already the war has gone from being a threat to a reality. Andy refuses to get married until the war is over and he has all his limbs and can support a family. In the Shadow of Thy Wings is their love story, even though they are apart most of the time.
Bloomfield, a small town in southeast Missouri, is a strategic spot for either army to set up headquarters at various times, making it an extremely dangerous area to live. All the main characters rely on their faith in God, even though they sometimes question where God is in all the madness.
About the Author
Sharron Willis lives with her husband, Tom, and a poodle/miniature pinscher mix, Muffie, in a small town thirty miles south of Bloomfield, Missouri. She has a bachelor's degree in education, and now that she's retired, she hopes to minister to women of all ages through her writing. Since her teenage years, she has especially enjoyed reading romance novels set in earlier times in America. She has a great love for the Lord and people.
