Daily Provision

Read Matthew 6:19-25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?” Matthew 6:25 One thing I enjoy about camping, as strange as it may seem, is learning to do with less. Even though my collection of camping supplies and “gadgets” has grown yearly, I still feel that I am roughing it compared to the comforts of home. I enjoy knowing that I can survive on less. Somehow the clutter is stripped down to a minimum, and I can focus on the substance of life. My friends often wonder why I would enjoy vacationing without comforts. True, I do enjoy hotel vacations. But being in nature and enjoying simpler things brings me closer to God. The pretenses of life are stripped to the basics. Jesus shared that concept with those of His day and with us. He knew that the more cluttered our lives become, the less we concentrate on the purpose for which we are created. Our salvation was His purpose and mission. He could not be distracted by this world’s demands and complexities. He knew that His Father would supply His daily needs while He lived out God’s will. Sometimes we almost drown our mission, our purpose, in the flood of the world’s details. At these times we should remember that our Creator God will provide for our needs. Then we are freed for His purpose to live through us. Today, listen for the voice of God as you celebrate the simplicity of life. Father God, we thank You that Jesus never forgot His mission to save sinners. Help us not to get so bogged down in our own daily activities that we forget to look up to You, our Provider.
