Wonderfully Distinctive
For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10
As you walk the seashore today pick up an assortment of shells on the beach and carefully observe the differences. If you have a magnifying glass, take it along. Notice the structural design, color, shape, and distinct pattern of each one. Some are ribbed while others are smooth. Did you pick up the spindle-shaped oyster drill? Perhaps you found the chalky round clam or a calico-striped scallop. The delicate, white angel wings are especially unique and charming. Every beautiful shell is a treasured gift from God, individually formed through heredity and environment. Some are quite rare, like the spiraled spotted scotch bonnet. Shells are celebrated in jewelry, décor, crafts, and clothing. Though different, each adds to the mosaic of the beach experience.
We are like that in God's kingdom—varied and distinctive. He created us equal in His love, but uniquely different in service for His kingdom. The Bible reminds us that God’s knowledge of us is so intimate that, as Jesus said, “Even the very hairs on your head are numbered” (Matthew 10:30). Psalm l39:14 reminds us that we are wonderfully made. Do you know the One Who has a purpose for your life? He loves you more than you can imagine. He will make known the plan for your life as you obey the prompting and guiding of the Holy Spirit. Just as shells are uniquely and wonderfully distinctive, so are you.
Heavenly Father, thank You for the perfect plan that You have for me. Through love and service to You, I pray that my life will reflect the unique reason for which I am created.

The beach is a magical place. Whether we sip our morning coffee from the deck of a beach cottage or at the edge of the surf, the splendor of God’s creation begs us to slow down and enjoy the beautiful coastal gift he has provided. Each wave sounds out God’s declaration of existence. The seashore beckons us, and we are forever transformed. Its peacefulness erases stress, and our spirit is taken to a place of tranquility. Our memories linger long after our footprints and sandcastles are gone, and we look forward to the day we can return to its restorative power.
