Just a Few Seconds with God

Have you ever had an espresso? You know that amazing shot of coffee you get at your favorite hangout, or home? For Italians, Spaniards, French and others its Un Caffè (give or take an f or an accent point). It's a quick shot that gets you going. Yet, some people prefer to sit down with a nice cup of coffee. The one that may take you an hour to drink while you work or enjoy a good book. Christians can have the same “coffee related effects” when it comes to our faith. Sometimes we just want a quick shot of God. A quick inspiration, and at times we want to savor His grace, mercy, direction and correction. Let's face it, in today's world of immediate gratification and at times our lack of patience, we just want something that'll get us through. Nevertheless, it's essential as part of our faith, to be able to sit down with that large cup of faith every once in a while, to make sure that we are properly nourished in His word. We truly should be doing it every day but we don’t. We fall short all the time. When things are going well, we tend to put God on the bookshelf. But when we need Him, oh boy do we go running! We find ourselves as believers trusting God so much, that we don't even talk to him on a daily basis. We know He's there just like a good book resting on the shelf that we know we can run to….. but that's not the kind of relationship that He wants from us. He wants a connection that is full bars, like the one on your cell phone, and full strength on the Wi-Fi. That connection that comes when you plug in that Ethernet port into the back of your computer….1000 megabytes per second or more! You get the idea. This book was inspired by the need to get a quick shot of God yet never forgetting the importance to dive deeper into scripture. How did it happen? Well, we were coming back from a family trip, and I found myself in the back seat while our son drove and my wife sat in the front. I had a lot on my mind, and I needed a quick devotional. A quick word from God…one that could have turned into a deeper dive, but all I wanted was a quick espresso shot! Scrolling on my social media was not cutting it. I needed something that would quiet my mind. I had a devotional in my phone, but I admit, the reflections were too long. Not that there’s anything wrong with a lengthy devotion, but it was not what I wanted. I started looking at different apps that I could download but they all wanted to track my phone usage and information. I was totally discouraged by that and then that little voice spoke….. Why don't you do something about it? Why don't you create something that will give others that quick shot of God if they need it. That’s how Just a Few Seconds with God: 365 Moments of Connection was created. The scriptures in this book along with the reflections and prayers are deliberately short. But Why?.......Well, I want people to at least have a few seconds with God every day, versus none at all. My hope is that this book will inspire YOU to want to seek deeper into scripture and not trust God so much that you will just let him get dusty on the bookshelf. Trust me, I too need to take my own advice. I know, because I've allowed that to happen. I respectfully challenge you to engage with Him daily. Let your mind wonder and explore the priceless value of His word. You may see some more miracles in your life just by letting Him in a little more. I hope this most humble book in your hand will bring you closer to our Lord and savior.
