Genesis 3 My Notes: The Demise of Equality and the Birth of Resentment One consequence of Eve’s disobedience was this: “Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.” God’s original design may have included hierarchy, but Eve’s role as helper carried equality, not submission. That equality was revoked not only in position, but also in a physical and emotional level. Submission became more than her physical place; it became an instinctive emotion that would be ingrained in every daughter for all of time, regardless of social changes and norms. In a panic of defensiveness that followed, it is easy to imagine Eve feeling the first stirrings of resentment toward Adam—the man who had shifted the full burden of obedience onto her and proved unable, or unwilling, to protect her. And for Adam, a new resentment that Eve’s weakness and manipulation of him changed everything. In that moment, one of Satan’s greatest human victories took root: a fearful, wounded woman and a resentful, victimized man.

With this first foray into setting those thoughts down in writing, she is excited to encourage others to strengthen their faith by breaking out of unconscious thinking and considering the people of the Bible in the context in which they lived, and finding meaningful spiritual insight while considering the real people and scenes of the Bible. Donna lives in Pennsylvania with her husband of more than 35 years. They have three children, six granddaughters, and one grandson.
