How to Use this Devotional
It is important to understand how this devotional works. There are 52 different scriptures, one for each week of the year. You might want to put the weekly scripture on your phone where you will see it easily or write it on multiple index cards and distribute them in places where you will see them and be able to focus on the scripture and attempt to memorize it. It is important that you repeatedly say each scripture to yourself to use it as a starting point.
Each week ask the Holy Spirit to help you believe the scripture for the week. Ask Him to make it part of your identity. It will be important to praise God for the scripture of the week. In addition to some of my thoughts about each scripture, there is space for you to write your own thoughts. Journaling can be a very effective way to process your ideas and beliefs.
In conclusion, I pray that God will make Himself real to you, and that you can receive how He feels about you. I hope you will experience the love and intimacy He wants to share with you.

Week 1 - Scripture
“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.”

Week 1 – Journal
If you have asked Jesus into your heart, you are a child of God. As you focus on this week’s scripture, remind yourself that you are a child of God. Picture yourself being hugged by Jesus and hearing him say to you, “You are my child.” Write about how you feel in the arms of Jesus.

“No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, because all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.”

Week 2 – Journal
What an incredible blessing to know that we are friends with Jesus. We are so loved by Him that He wants to share everything with us that his Father has taught Him.
Teacher and Catholic school developer, Janet Erskine Stuart wrote, “Every friendship with God and every love between Him and a soul is the only one of its kind.” Your friendship with Jesus is the only one of its kind!
Nineteenth century artist, Vincent van Gogh once said, “Close friends are truly life’s treasures. Sometimes they know us better than we know ourselves.” Jesus certainly knows us better than we know ourselves.
This week talk to Jesus like He is your friend. Record how that makes you feel.

Week 3 – Scripture
“For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are son and daughters of God. For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption.”

Week 3 – Journal
Spend this week thanking God that you are His son or daughter. God is your spiritual Father. He has adopted you into His family.

About the Book
Seeing Yourself Through the Eyes of God is a weekly devotional for anyone struggling with poor self-esteem. Each week provides one focus scripture and the opportunity to meditate on that scripture as you allow it to change how you see yourself. It is Tom’s hope that if you focus on these scriptures for a full year, you will see a dramatic improvement in your self-esteem as you learn to see yourself as God sees you.
About the Author
Tom Russell began his career as an elementary school teacher, but after 11 years he felt the Lord calling him to become a counselor. He has been a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor for over 30 years and is founder and president of Heritage Christian Counseling of Mansfield, in Mansfield, Ohio.
