I was asked to put this book together after Coach Hurst guided Centreville Academy to its Tenth State Championship in 2025.
While I have known Coach Bill Hurst most of my life, he came to Centreville Academy my sophomore year in high school, I have not always lived in Centreville. Therefore, many of the things in this book are based on stories from the many people Coach Hurst has touched over the years.
It has been said that a legacy is not what you leave behind, but rather the people you have touched along the way. Coach Bill Hurst has touched thousands of people throughout his time at Centreville Academy! Many of them very deeply.
It is my hope that this book will capture at least a little bit of what Coach Hurst has meant to the athletes, students, and the people of Centreville Academy.

About the Book
Coach Bill Hurst has been the Head Football Coach at Centreville Academy for over 50 years. He is the winningest high school coach in Mississippi history.
It has been said, “A legacy is not what you leave behind, but the people you touch along the way.” Coach Hurst has touched thousands of lives over the years.
This book is a collection of memories, photos, and stories from former players and students.
About the Author
Charles R. Rogers was a sophomore at Centreville Academy when Coach Hurst came to the school in the Fall of 1972. Thus began a 50+ year friendship.
After graduating, Charles began a career in public relations, and after retirement, writing. He now lives in College Station, Texas.
Following Coach Hurst’s 50th season, several of his former players asked Charles to put together a book about Coach Hurst’s legacy.
It is Charles’s hope this book gives you at least a taste of what Coach Bill Hurst has meant to so many players, students, and fans over the years.
