First period, Homeroom. Cassie got herself into gear to face another week. After saying “Hi” all around, she found her desk next to Audra. They started to talk but got interrupted by Mrs. Willis. “Welcome back. Let’s get started by introducing a new student.” A girl in a wheelchair rolled up to the front. “This is Shondra.” Everyone said, “Hi, Shondra.” “She has a condition that weakens her bones so she gets to sit down all the time.” A few nervous chuckles. “I’m going to assign some of you to show her ‘the ropes’. Cassie, you have the same class schedule, so you’ll be the first to help her, okay?” What could I say, ‘No?’ “You’ll be getting extra credit, but I’m sure that won’t matter, as you’ll be doing Shondra a great service, right?” Again, what could…..”Yes, Mrs. Willis.” Shondra rolled over next to me and said, “Hi.”

About the Book
Cassie is a pretty typical teenage girl who seems to be stumbling along into various situations that can either throw her into depression or into adapting with alternative reactions and responses. Choosing an ever-faithful Friend ultimately gives her clarity, meaning and fulfillment in a confusing, difficult world.
About the Author
In writing this fictional account I’ve drawn on personal experiences in learning about myself and others. I am a grandmother to two teenage girls and I thought it would be helpful to have a format where young women could share their emotional growth experiences. My vision is to soften the pain and hopelessness from what can seem devastating by seeing experiences according to scripture and learning lessons from growth. The goal of giving all our “ups and downs” to Jesus leads to a personal relationship with Him and discovering the purpose He has ordained for our lives.
