The story of Tamar in 2 Samuel 13 recounts the tragic rape of King David’s daughter by her half-brother Amnon, exposing deep dysfunction within David’s household and the failure of justice in the face of grievous sin. Tamar’s story provides a sobering biblical lens through which the modern crisis of sexual abuse and stolen innocence can be understood. In contemporary society, sexual abuse remains pervasive. Children, adolescents, adults, and members of the military often experience sexual victimization in silence. Survivors frequently carry deep wounds marked by fear, shame, confusion, and long-term trauma that may affect relationships, identity, and emotional health throughout their lives. Tamar’s cry—“Brother, don’t force me”—echoes across generations as the anguished voice of countless survivors.
