Soon it got really dark except for the fire, which was slowly dying out, with a few embers glowing. It was so quiet that all the boys heard was the cracking of the wood.
Suddenly, Buck got off the log he'd been sitting on and looked around. He took a sip of his coffee. "Shhh, do you hear that in the distance? I think it's coming just from about a mile west from here, across the lake, in the brush. It's a baby wolf or pup calling out for its momma. I sure bet he's cold tonight. I will bet you anything that pup is scared and lost. Somehow, he got separated; it's such a sad, lonely sound."
RJ said, "Just like us, Buck-we were blind, and now we see. We were lost, and now we are found. Thank you, Lord."
Buck was thinking about how he could change the subject. Before he had the chance to, Clyde spoke up in a whisper.
