I Kings 19:11-12 (Common English Bible) – The Lord said,“Go out and stand at the mountain before the Lord. The Lord is passing by.” A very strong wind tore through the mountains and broke apart the stones before the Lord. But the Lord wasn't in the wind. After the wind, there was an earthquake. But the Lord wasn't in the earthquake. After the earthquake, there was a fire. But the Lord wasn't in the fire. After the fire, there was a sound. Thin. Quiet. Don't you imagine that after each major act of nature, Elijah was thinking, "Surely that was the Lord.”Each was powerful, capable of changing the very landscape surrounding the prophet, but after the wind, earthquake, and fire, the answer was still no. God was not in these things. The Voice, another version of Scripture I frequently read, says that though these acts were mighty, they were not“divine.” It is just like man to want to be impressed by great acts. Artists make powerful ocean waves come alive with their brush strokes, as they create life-like paintings of storm-tossed seas. Photographers enhance impressive landscapes with editing software to perfect what a pricey lens has already captured naturally. We tell our kids to "dream big; there's nothing you can't accomplish.” Even in our churches, we compare sizes:“How many did you have on Sunday morning?” We humans want to be big. We're impressed by stature. My youngest daughter had a height requirement for anyone she dated. We drive big trucks. We value big investments. We order the Porterhouse steak. So . . God gave Elijah big – big wind, a big showing of power via the shaking of the earth, and a big, all-consuming fire. In all of these things, nothing was divine. What was divine? Stillness. Sit with that for a minute.

About the Book
I realized one day that the devotionals I’d been reading were drawing me more to the author’s voice than to God’s own. So, I changed my practice. I came with nothing but the scripture, sat with the Holy Spirit, asked for revelation, and wrote what He stirred in me. These pages are the fruit of that simple, sacred practice; they are thoughts, word pictures, and inspired whispers born only from the Word of God and the Spirit’s gentle guidance. Now, I invite you to join me. This is not a “sit-and-get” devotional. Your imagination, your reflections, and your conversations with God are meant to breathe through these pages as much as mine. In the introduction, I share memories of walks with my daughters - gathering simple treasures like leaves and pebbles, watching the ordinary become beautiful when seen with wonder. In the same way, consider this your invitation to go treasure hunting through the scripture. Come; let’s rediscover the beauty, simplicity, and refreshing presence of God’s Word.

Amy Kemp is a lifelong journaler whose days begin with Scripture, reflection, and the familiar feel of her favorite ink pens. Writing has long been woven into her daily rhythm, but after publishing her first book, It’s All About the Dough, she assumed her author journey was complete. Through the persistent encouragement of her husband, Keith, she began revisiting the pages she had been filling for years.
