Matt and Jess

Matt always thought Jessica was cute, but now she had grown into a beautiful woman. The hint of red in her brown hair was more radiant than ever. It was spectacular. Matt was now old enough to know about love. He loved Jessica. He just did not think he could do anything about it. Matt was getting the attention of some of the other girls at school. He would hang out with some of them, but he never had an actual girlfriend. Is heart already belonged to Jessica. There was not room for anyone else. One day Joanna asked Jessica a question. “What’s up with you and Matt?” “What do you mean?” “Everyone knows that you and Matt are very close; we can all see it. Most think that you and Matt are actually together. So, are you?” “What?” Jessica says with a little surprise, or maybe embarrassment. “You think that Matt and I are boyfriend and girlfriend?” “Yes, the other girls think that you two are dating. As for me, I wonder sometimes, but I know that you would have told me if there was anything going on between the two of you. You would have told me, wouldn’t you?” “You can’t be serious, Joanna. Matt and I have grown up together; we are best friends. He is like my big brother to me, even closer than that. There is nothing going on.” “I know how close you two are,” replied Joanna. “That is why people are talking. They see it as something more. To be honest with you, Jess, so do I sometimes. You just said that he is closer to you than a brother. Is there something more that you are not telling me? Jessica was blushing. There was a time when she did think about Matt as maybe being more than a friend. That made her feel a little uncomfortable, so she quickly dismissed that thought. She was certain that Matt saw her as his little sister. That is how she left it. “Come on Jessica, I see you blushing. Matt has grown into a very handsome young man. There are many girls here in school that want to go after him. The only reason they have not is because they think he is with you.” Jessica was smiling, but she was feeling a little uncomfortable with this conversation. “Well, he is not with me, Joanna,” said Jessica. “Matt and I are just friends.” “If you say so, Jess, but I think there is something more there. Maybe you just haven’t admitted it to yourself.” “That’s enough, Joanna. This whole conversation is weirding me out. Matt and I are friends, okay. Nothing else” “So then you are okay with Matt going out with another girl? One of them is going to eventually ask Matt. You know that, right?” “Yeah, I know that. I am fine if Matt goes out with another girl. He has hung out with other girls before. Why would I care?” “Yes, but he has never really had a girlfriend, Jess. What happens if he ends up with one? Will you be okay with that?” “Yes!” shouted Jessica. She was getting irritated. “Yes, I am okay with that, Joanna. I have been out with other guys. Why should it matter if Matt goes out with other girls? We are friends. I am done with this conversation.” “Okay, I am sorry, Jess. I just wanted to warn you. Matt is a hottie, and some girl is going to get him. Maybe it will be me.” Joanna laughs. Jessica looks at Joanna with a grin as she gives her a little shove. Jessica thought to herself, “Joanna is right, Matt is a hottie. No question about that.” Joanna still did not believe what Jessica was telling her about Matt. She could see something more between them. She didn’t know why either of them had not said something, but she loved her friend and did not want to upset her anymore.
