The church has proven to be the most successful and diversified global confederation throughout history, and you are about to witness its very greatest days!
You have already had many opportunities in life to fulfill your destiny. The catch is, it is hard to recognize these opportunities if you do not know what your destiny is. These missed opportunities will continue to occur unless you take the time to discover your destiny. It is not a goal. A goal comes from your strength. Your destiny comes from your weakness. Goals help ensure your success in areas of life where you are already strong and fairly successful. On the other hand your destiny helps you hope for success in an area of life that makes you feel weak, needy or fearful.
Everyone has special talents, abilities and gifts. It is not that you are absolutely the best at what you do but there are activities you enjoy doing because you are good at them. You are born with specific talents; you learn new abilities as you grow; God gives you even more gifts when you begin a personal relationship with him. God has given you these talents, abilities and gifts to make life easier and more enjoyable, and God helps you make the most of them. Yet you cannot continue through life investing all you are as a person in developing only the talents, abilities and gifts you are already good at. They are only a small part of the meaning of your life. A tremendous amount of meaning can also be found in the destiny that promises you real change in the area of your life where you are weak and needy.
Deep within your own unique personality you have been gifted to excel in certain areas and allowed to be lacking in others. Just as you can become an expert in the area of life in which you naturally excel, you can also become an expert in the area in which you are lacking the most. This aspect of your life is where you will discover your destiny. Rick Warren, author of the best-selling book The Purpose-Driven Life said, “We are fragile and flawed and break easily. But God will use us if we allow him to work through our weaknesses … Instead of living in denial or making excuses, take the time to identify your weaknesses.”
Among the heroes of faith mentioned in Hebrews is Moses, who acknowledged, “I am slow of speech.” Gideon confessed, “My clan is the weakest in Manasseh and I am the least in my family.” Rahab admitted, “Our hearts melted and everyone’s courage failed.” Necessity dictated that these three face their needs, weaknesses and fears. That is how they discovered their destinies. Each one’s experience was the same. Their “weakness was turned to strength.” Moses became a great leader and public speaker. Gideon turned out to be a brilliant military leader and strategist. Rahab single-handedly rescued several Israelite spies from the King of Jericho while saving her entire family from certain destruction in the process.
When the angle of the Lord first appeared to Gideon, “The Lord turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?” “Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.” It was not until the very end that Gideon came to truly understand. When he was told, “Go in the strength you have,” the angle of the Lord was referring to his position as the weakest and the least. That weakness is what qualified him to save Israel and become a hero of faith.
Rahab changed the course of history by facing her weakness. Her story of rescue became repeated throughout generations. She escaped a life of prostitution by marrying one of the spies she had rescued. They had a son named Boaz who grew up hearing about his mother’s escape from Jericho and the people she rescued. Then Boaz married Ruth, rescuing her from a world of poverty. It was a fairytale romance recorded in Ruth. Thirty-two generations later Rahab had a descendant named Jesus who once again rescued the Jewish people. Friend you can see that it does not take a hero to have a destiny. Your destiny actually finds you! The Holy Spirit is currently searching for ordinary people like you so he can encourage you to embrace your destiny.
What is your destiny? Almost any aspect of life can qualify as the subject of your destiny: your relationships, hobby, marriage, parenting, lifestyle, personal history or current circumstances. Your appearance, reputation, money, career, ministry or education may also be the subject of your destiny if you have a pressing need or weakness in one of these areas. Drugs, alcohol, food, attitude, sex, drama, anger, smoking, gambling, gaming, gossiping or pornography may be the subject of your destiny. Even a personal ambition may be the subject of your destiny if circumstances have left you with a desperate need or fear.
Most people never come to realize their destiny. Throughout their entire lives they yearn to experience a greater sense of rest, inner peace and happiness. It is apparent to them that they might have a destiny but they would never imagine finding it among the seemingly worthless and shameful parts of their personality.
