Addictions End

I had nothing left to my name except a pile of cocaine in front of me. I got very high. I sat back and I cried out to God. "God, I don't want this anymore. I will give you my life. I will serve you. Just please take this from me". He responded to me and said, "Are you done? Are you ready?". It is as if he was waiting for me the whole time. I fell to my face and praised and worshiped, crying myself to sleep. The next morning, I woke up and I saw that pile of cocaine still sitting on my desk and it just looked unappealing to me, so I went about my day. Three days had gone by and that pile of cocaine was still on my desk. If you know anything about addiction, that doesn't happen. I was a fiend. A junkie. An addict. If I had it, I was going to do it. After that third day I had recognized that I was delivered and that Jesus Christ had broken the chains of addiction over my life and set me free. I never went through withdrawal, and I never craved it again. It was just gone. I was living in a garage at the time and the man I lived with was my “keeper.” He would barge into the garage unannounced in the late hours of the night or early morning with drugs and booze that I was forced to partake of because it was his house, his rules. I didn't have a choice. After I was delivered, I believe God stationed an Angel in front of the garage door preventing that man from coming in because for the next couple of weeks he did not come into the garage to party. God was protecting me. He not only found me in the place of filth that I had been laying, but He cleaned me up and transformed my heart and my mind. My desires changed. I no longer had a desire to alter my mind with substance but to honor the living God with my actions and my words. My neighbor had continuously asked me to go to church with him and I refused because I would have rather gotten high. But once I was delivered, I had a desire to go to church. So, I started to go with him and as I started to get fed with the word of God I started to see Him in my life more and more. It wasn't something that I could explain or put words to but the more time I spent in prayer and in God's word the more I felt the presence and the love of Jesus. It was an overwhelming sense of comfort and peace that I had never experienced ever in my life. We grow up learning about God and Jesus and hearing about what He did, but it is not until we truly surrender our hearts to Him that our eyes begin to open to His presence here on earth. Though he does not dwell in this physical plane, by communicating with Him and submerging ourselves in His word, we can start seeing glimpses of His manifested presence.
