When we arrived, the property was breathtaking. A secluded ten-acre haven at the base of Mount Rainier. Rustic buildings, vibrant flowers, towering evergreens. It was peaceful. Sacred. The van stopped at a large, covered area where the staff lined up to greet us. One by one, we stepped out into the cool evening air. It felt like a spiritual boot camp. “Lo Lo,” a massive Samoan, welcomed us with deep sincerity and explained what lay ahead. Our first instruction was putting our cell phones in a box; we would get them back in four days. We were each handed a small wooden board, a Sharpie, and a smooth stone. The board was to stay with us at all times—even in the bathroom. The meaning would come later. Inside the main hall— “the arena”—were six round tables with chairs. Fourteen chairs in a half-circle with one lone chair facing the fourteen were set up in the front area. Behind, a curtained-off area were cots and our belongings. No cozy lodge for us. We were here to do the work. A staff member opened with the story of the woman caught in adultery. Jesus told the crowd, “He who is without sin, cast the first stone.” One by one, the accusers dropped their stones and walked away. Each staff member followed suit—dropping their stone on the floor, raising both hands, and pledging confidentiality. Then each of us did the same. A pile of stones lay in the center of the room. “What was said on the mountain, would stay on the mountain.” No turning back now. The sharing began immediately. Honest. Raw. Intense. This wasn’t about comfort or camaraderie. This was soul work. That night, we went to bed close to midnight, our hearts heavy with the weight of truth. Wake-up was at six. Silence was mandatory until after breakfast. We moved quietly, each man lost in thought. The day was packed—teaching, personal stories, honest conversations and confessions. It felt good to open up, to be real, and to realize I wasn’t alone. Many of us carried the same burdens. The most common thread? Broken or absent relationships with our fathers. The core message: we were called to be men—real men. Leaders. Servants. Christ-followers. We had to clear the junk out of our lives to become who we were meant to be. Thursday night, as I lay on my cot, I reflected deeply. I wanted a life-changing encounter with God. And I was about to get it.

About the Book
Jeff Beal grew up in a strict Pentecostal home as the youngest of five children, born much later than his four sisters. By the time he was eight years old, all of his siblings were married or had moved away from home, leaving him alone with his parents. Mischief, restlessness, and teenage shenanigans became part of his personality early on. As he grew older, Jeff chased purpose across continents. He spent nearly a year living in a tent in South Sudan, Africa, working inside a compound and surviving on rice and beans. He was searching for meaning, but never quite stopped long enough to let it find him. After two divorces, each one leaving behind broken families and hearts, he learned to live with the painful consequences. Then, love surprised him. He found the woman of his dreams and began a new life. From the outside, everything appeared perfect. On the inside, it wasn’t. After fifty-five years of running, Jeff reached a mountaintop crossroads at a men’s event—where, for the first time, he stopped long enough to listen. There, the Lord met him with a letter that read as if it had been written just for him… and for anyone who longs to personally hear from God. This is a story of wandering and homecoming. Of surrender and discovery. Of the only life that truly lasts. And it is an invitation—to stop running, and to be found.
