Chapter 1 - So, You've Changed Someone shared the good news message of the gospel with you. That's absolutely fantastic, right? You believed it; you had a little prayer time with God and officially accepted his only begotten son as your Lord and Saviour. Now what? What exactly has happened to you? Is there a difference? What is it that has changed? Why is it so special? Let me tell you—A LOT. Dear believer, you've entered unearthly and uncharted territory and there's no going back. You have entered the Kingdom of God. Your blessings and privileges are many. Your responsibilities are incredibly important. Now you are a member of the church, the bride of Christ. You're now a member of God's family, having gained a father and hordes of brothers and sisters. You're blessed with helpers called angels. Most of all, you now possess the immeasurable power of God's Holy Spirit who indwells you, has sealed you, and will guide you every step of the way in your walk with God. It's a solemn promise from the Lord who said in John 14:26 (NASB) "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you." You'll definitely need him because it is a lifelong journey. His presence in your life is the best assurance of your salvation. He has permanently sealed you as a child of God. He has eternally indwelt you. You are his temple forever. If it were possible for you to still go to hell, the Holy Spirit would have to go with you, but God promised the Holy Spirit would never leave you. It's very important that you be under the control of the Holy Spirit. Being under his control does not mean that you become a robot unable to make decisions for yourself. To be under the control of the Holy Spirit means that you of your own free will surrender your life to him so that he can transform you into God's holy image. He empowers you with everything you will need to live a victorious life for the glory of God. In 1 Thessalonians 5:22 (WEB) God commands us to "Abstain from every form of evil." You can never stand up to evil without him.
