Mommy Is a Rainbow

About the Book

Yellow, pink, blue, red, and green. Colors dance inside Mommy’s busy brain. Mommy lives with bipolar disorder, a mental difference in which moods swing from high to low. To explain these shifts to her daughter, Mommy describes herself as a rainbow, turning moods like joy and sorrow into colors. As Mommy paints the world in living color, her daughter learns that Mommy is a wonderfully different artist. Mommy Is a Rainbow is more than a book for children, parents, and guardians. Mommy’s voice is that of all those who live with bipolar disorder sharing their colorful world with others.

About the Author

Arlette is an ordained minister, certified chaplain, author, and mental health advocate whose work centers on faith, mental wellness, and community care. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature from the University of Virginia and a Certificate in Publishing from NYU’s Center for Publishing, Writing, and Media (SPI). Arlette deepened her theological roots at Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York, where she earned a Master of Arts in Psychiatry and Religion and a Certificate in Church & Nonprofit Administration. Chaplaincy is central to her identity. She completed four units of Clinical Pastoral Education at Bellevue Hospital Center and NYU Langone Health, ministering across trauma units, psychiatric care, and intensive care settings and continues to provide emotional and spiritual support to patients and families in times of need. Arlette is the founder of Wondrous Pillars of Light, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to mental health awareness, education, and outreach and its sister organization, Heartlight Universal. Drawing upon lived experience, Arlette’s voice is one of spiritual expertise and emotional depth. Whether at the bedside, in the pulpit, or on the page she’s helping people find the words—and the colors—to express what’s too often left unsaid. Her ministry is clear: to create spaces where faith and mental health meet; where individuals, families, and communities are equipped with insight and empathy; and where no one walks through the dark alone.
