Jonah was a prophet with a bad attitude. He was asked by God to do something he did not really want to do. God wanted him to reach out to the evil people in Nineveh to tell them to turn away from their wrongdoing. Jonah just did not like those people, so he turned around and traveled in the opposite direction to avoid doing as God asked.
And then Jonah encountered a whale, who swallowed him and kept him inside for three days. God really intended for him to do ask He asked! When the whale finally spit him out on dry land, God gave Jonah another opportunity to do as he was first asked. When he did so, Ninevites turned away from their wrongdoing and God forgave them. Although this was not the outcome pleasing to Jonah, what mattered was that God’s will be done. An entire group of people was rescued.

Abba Father, don’t we too sometimes want bad things to happen to people we don’t like? Or those we don’t want to receive God’s favor? But second-guessing God is not a good idea! Our self-centeredness can keep us from doing good things for others or seeing God bless them. But Father, that does not bring about happiness for us. And that is not the kind of people You want us to be! When we are a blessing to others, we too are blessed in ways we don’t think are possible.
Father, we want to stay in You presence, not losing the gift we have of walking closely with You when we trust in You.

About the Book
God’s Word is full of life stories that provide valuable insights that all of us can apply to our own situations. Some of those lessons were learned the hard way and others much easier, but all of them are interesting. Grandparents have a similar role in the lives of our grandkids as the one in those of our own children. We have the privilege of sharing things we know for their benefit!
About the Author
Joy Savage was raised in a church called Open Bible Tabernacle, and acquired a lifelong respect and love for God's Word as a great source for wise living. Fondly known as 'Damajoy' by her grandsons, she wants to share some of what she has learned on her life journey as a woman of faith and prayer with other grandparents and grandkids. Over the years as a member of Open Bible and the Methodist Church, Joy has thoroughly enjoyed opportunities to teach kids in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School as well as involvement in Singles Ministry. Teaching is always to learn as well.
