About the Book
Lazy Lab reveals the untold human side of science and wellness. With two decades of experience as a laboratory scientist, Jessica Kern shares personal stories that intertwine the realities of scientific work with the broader ways environments shape health, resilience, and meaning.
This book goes beyond the microscope, addressing how factors like air quality, lighting, noise, ergonomics, temperature, stress, and workplace culture directly impact both performance and well-being. Through humorous anecdotes and honest reflections, Kern connects lab experiences with universal struggles: burnout, chronic illness, and the search for balance in demanding environments.
Part memoir, part environmental health commentary, and part call to action, Lazy Lab invites readers to rethink how they engage with work, science, and self-care. By blending storytelling with a scientist’s eye for detail, Kern creates a narrative that resonates with anyone seeking a healthier relationship with their environment—inside the lab, classroom, workplace, or home.
