You are one of the most valuable assets in your church. Your wisdom, experience and knowledge are incomparable to that of the younger members of the congregation, simply because you have lived longer and been through a lot more. Our wonderful God has used all of the experiences of your life, good, bad and painful to prepare you for this season, and you have unlimited potential when it comes to doing the work of the ministry. In some cases, seniors face limited opportunities to do any ministry in their local church, but there are opportunities and needs all around you and all around the world. I am not referring to the activities involved in the daily operation of the church. Throughout His ministry you could always find Jesus among the multitudes of lost souls going to hell without hope. This is where His disciples (that's you and me) were trained to do the work of the ministry. It is my goal as a fellow senior to encourage as many as possible to rethink the plans you have for your future. We have entered a wonderful time of life called retirement. I say wonderful not for the usual reasons one thinks of when planning to retire, but because now you are free to serve the Lord and do the works of the ministry in ways and in places you may have never even dreamed of before. There are opportunities everywhere to serve the Lord locally, nationally and internationally. The sky is the limit if you are willing to step out of your routine and take a risk. Now is the time to do something you have never thought of doing or, even better, doing something you have never even heard of before. While this will look different for every believer, what matters is the decision to spend the rest of your life doing all you can to fulfill God's purpose and call for you. My prayer is that there will be a Senior Renaissance" in the North American church that will impact the world for Christ. I call it "Radical Retirement" and I hope that after reading his book you will decide to do something so far out of your comfort zone that no one, not your pastor, your best friends, not even your family will believe it. Then, the stories you will be able to tell will inspire them to give it a try!

Finish Life Like One of the Twelve is written to the growing number of retired senior citizens in the North American Church. This number increases every day and for a variety of reasons is producing a small
army of believers with, seemingly, nothing to do for ministry. This situation is exacerbated in many cases by the "new" American dream called successful retirement. Many of you have worked hard your whole life, you've planned, saved and invested and now you get to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Some have done better at this than others but you all have a couple things in common, Time and Money. You no longer have to work every day for a paycheck, it just shows up in your bank account once a month, what a great system, for non believers. You, on the other hand, as a believer, live by an entirely different set of rules. Your life is not your own, you were bought with a price and are suppose to spend your whole life serving the King of Kings. I believe it is safe to say that Gods plan doesn't have anything to do with retirement and I doubt if you can find any place in the Bible that "green lights" retirement. Upon reaching 65 Americans are given free time and a consistant flow of money for the rest of their lives. How will you use these incredible resources knowing you have to give an account to God concerning your stewardship of this amazing gift! I believe you will find an answer within the pages of this book!
