Preface Turning 60 made aging a reality for me. Along with physical changes came emotional shifts, as I realized life would be different. The uncertainty felt daunting, and I spent hours reflecting on what my future should look like. I felt irrelevant at times, as people seemed to dismiss my worth and treat me as just another “senior citizen” with nothing more to offer. The unwritten invitation to take a seat at the table of elderhood signaled that I needed to find out what God had to say about it. What if I chose to experience this stage of life differently? More importantly, what was God calling me to? How could I remain relevant? What do I have to offer the world of work on behalf of God’s Kingdom? As a young child, I was fascinated by the kaleidoscope. Peering through the tiny hole, I loved watching the color formations and symmetrical patterns shift as I rotated the tube. Imagine how dull it would have been to see only one color and one pattern. That would have made me lose interest and think the toy was useless. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case. Likewise, the world God created—filled with all generations—was never meant to be seen from only one perspective. If we haven’t done so, it is time to shift our perspective on aging. Rather than measuring relevance by the world’s standards, let’s look to God for His vision of relevance. We are a kaleidoscope of generations—beautiful to see, filling the earth, created to conquer, influence, encourage, and equip others. If you are among the 60-plus generation, this book is for you. I share the lessons I have learned so far in this new stage of life to encourage you to keep moving. Seek God. He knows what you should do and the direction you should take. Regardless of when your birth date falls on the calendar, you play an integral role in marketplace success. You are God’s ambassador in the marketplace—your assignment is to represent His Kingdom through your work and actions. About the Author
Phyllis A. Clemons is a Cincinnati native with a deep-seated passion for written communication and spiritual mentorship. She is the author of several transformative works, including the Broken-Wing series, A Journey Through Affliction, and Masters of the Marketplace: Representing God’s Kingdom in the World of Work. In 2021, she expanded her reach into children’s literature with her debut picture book, Lydia: It’s A New Day. A graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a BS in Administrative Management, Phyllis also holds a Master in Religious Education from Cincinnati Bible Seminary. When she isn’t writing or teaching the Bible, she enjoys knitting, cooking, and baking. Phyllis and her husband, Randall, are the proud parents of two sons and doting grandparents. Her life and ministry are anchored in John 15:5: “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing”(ESV).
