About the Author
My journey into recovery began in 1987, a time when I was still a young man searching for direction, healing, and meaning. I entered the world of 12-step programs with no real concept of God, no religious background, and very little understanding of who Jesus Christ was. Raised in a non-religious home in Mexico, faith was not part of our daily life. God was, at best, an idea—distant and undefined. But as I immersed myself in recovery, I quickly realized that healing would require something greater than myself. The 12 steps spoke of a “Higher Power,” and though I didn’t fully grasp what that meant at the time, I was willing to believe that such a presence existed. That willingness became the seed of faith. Over the years, my understanding of that Higher Power grew. What began as a vague hope slowly transformed into a real and living relationship with a loving, compassionate God. While I struggled with the idea of organized religion, something shifted when I started attending church with my wife and children. It was in that community, through worship and the Word, that I encountered Jesus—not just as a historical figure or moral teacher, but as a personal Savior. Today, I can say with full confidence that Jesus Christ is the Lord of my life. He is the Higher Power who was always there, even when I didn’t know His name. As I reflect on my journey, I see how the principles of the 12 steps align deeply with the teachings of Christ—principles like humility, honesty, surrender, and making amends. Though the language of the steps is often secular, their roots are profoundly spiritual. This devotional was created to offer daily encouragement for those walking the recovery path—especially those who long to grow closer to Jesus along the way. My hope is that through Scripture, reflection, and prayer, you’ll find strength for each day, healing for your heart, and a deepening connection to the One who loves you most. With grace and gratitude, Enrique B.
