The 5 Respect Principles
A Framework for Men to Build and Strengthen Connection, Healing the Heart of Man Through the Essence of Respect, Rooted in Agape Love
Every man carries wounds some visible, most hidden beneath performance, silence, and the pressure to always have it together. Many spend years offering respect to everyone around them while quietly starving for it themselves, mistaking self-neglect for humility and people-pleasing for service. In The 5 Respect Principles, author Emmitt Chang speaks directly into that silence, drawing from his own painful lessons and a growing relationship with Jesus Christ to show men a way back to who they were created to be.
This is not a book of self-help formulas. It is a spiritual framework, born out of testimony and Scripture, built to help men rediscover a masculine identity too often buried under insecurity, fear, and the exhausting habit of seeking validation from others. Chang makes the case that respect is foundational the way we recognize the image of God in ourselves and one another and that a man cannot genuinely offer respect to others until he has first received it from God.
At the heart of the book are five Respect Principles, explored through honest confession and biblical grounding:
- Words of Honor: exhortation and recognition in how men speak to one another
- Grounded Embrace: physical presence and strength through compassion
- Commitment to Excel: pursuing purpose with diligence and ambition
- Earning Tribute: embracing reward and reconciliation with integrity
- Acts of Accordance: serving and executing with open ears, reflecting God's character
Chang calls out the quiet ways men sabotage their own worth not to shame them, but to build them up. Part memoir, part discipleship guide, The 5 Respect Principles invites men to trade self-sufficiency for God-dependence, isolation for brotherhood, and performance for authenticity reconnecting with an identity that doesn't crumble when life's storms hit.
