To the Messengers Speak to me, Oracle! Sing to me, Muse! Whisper in my ear the goodwill of God. Offer no shadow, no transient ruse; Show me the guidance of staff and of rod. But how will I listen and hear what you say? My mind has its axis around which it turns, Removed from the joyous, eternal-long day And joined to the darkness where revelry spurns. Is this where the court of the spirits convenes? Will I be the judge of the message divine? The man half-corrupted looks upward and gleans Whatever he must as a means to malign. Then stay all your whispers! Withhold your fair voice! Permit not my foulness to tarnish the fair. Ascend on the strength of truth’s wings, and rejoice, Ye worthy to follow the Lord in the air. If I would dismember the knowledge of God, Then silence! Your message all-holy must stay; But if I may point out the path He has trod, Permit me to quietly show them the Way.

About the Book
Into/Out Of is both a Christian poetry collection and a deep dive into the mind of the Christian poet. It is designed to illustrate the journey from outermost thoughts about other people and the surrounding world into the inner places within mind and soul, culminating in an analysis of the relationship between God and the individual. Its poems address a wide range of subjects - family dynamics, the natural world, dreams both fanciful and foreboding, the work of the church - all within the lens of individual faith and the desire for relationship with God to pervade all of life.
About the Author
Luke Tatum is a full-time Christian minister currently based in Salem, Virginia. He is a graduate of Freed-Hardeman University with a bachelor’s degree in Biblical Texts. He has been writing poetry since high school, and poetry is among his greatest passions outside of preaching the Gospel.
