I want to be stereotypical right now and take you on a journey. I want to bring you back to the summer of 2019. Imagine this….a girl sitting alone in a college dorm, completing a summer program. Deep in thoughts, she contemplates events that were disastrous and traumatizing, replaying in her mind like a broken record. Her mind is so afflicted with dark memories that all she can do in that moment is stand frozen, stunned, paralyzed between the weight of her past and the silence of her present. She is unable to move or speak, as if time itself has abandoned her. She’s heartbroken, on the verge of tears…her fifth episode of crying that day. At this point in time, living each day takes a huge amount of strength. Wondering constantly of how she got here and where she went wrong in life. Unfortunately the thought of whether it is better to live with the pain or leave this ever forsaken world forever rears its nasty head. However, she can’t do that for one good reason, so she must go on. But how does she go on? She’s been used and abused (in more ways than one) with no one to understand her. Oh how lonely it feels at this time. You know that there are a billion people on this planet Earth, but somehow her human mind makes her feel as if she is the only one to be going through such darkness. Her only friend is sadness. How desolate it feels when family and associates keep telling her “it’ll get better” but never having the answer of when. Remember that heartbreak she’s experiencing too? That’s still lingering. Despair tugs at her heart as she wonders how she could ever open up again? How could she be prepared for another soul to love her after feeling so washed up from the last encounters? There is a phrase that comes to mind but she hopes not to finally surrender to it. It’s a daunting phase and no one likes to use it. However, it is unfortunately the only term that can perfectly describe what she is feeling at this time. Every “encounter” she has experienced has left her to feel like it took another piece of her. Left her to feel betrayed and unjust, those who violate her have walken off to enjoy their life with no thought of how their actions and abandonment have affected her. She can’t even recognize herself anymore in the mirror. She’s desperately searching for the girl she used to be before this moment. Ahh, there’s that phrase pushing through all her thoughts…DAMAGED GOODS. Such an ugly phrase but what else can she call this feeling? A phrase that sums up her mind that’s full of insecurities and hate, her body that feels oh so small, and the anxiety that cripples her. Oh how she desires for her mind to stop racing. Suddenly, that looming question comes into view….so now that I am damaged goods…. Now what?

About the Author
Stacy-Ann was born and raised in Hartford CT. She is of the first generation to be born in the US after her family originally migrated from Kingston Jamaica. Stacy graduated from University of Connecticut where she graduated with her bachelors in science. She then became a nurse in general surgery, eye surgery, school nursing, IV infusion, and labor & delivery. Stacy has always been passionate about helping others. Along with that passion, it was also always her dream to write a book, stating multiple times to multiple people of wanting to be one on the side. Today she travel nurses in North Carolina and hopes one day to release several more books. Maybe not one as deep as this one. She prays that this book has been a blessing to anyone who comes across it.
