“The world’s temporary fixations such as new clothes, a new car, a new career, success, the American dream, money, recognition, or likes on social media are only going to temporarily make us happy. They are only going to temporarily fix the deep longing we have within our chest. Yet, replacing these worldly objects and things is easier said than done. When we want to be loved, cared for, appreciated, and seen, we think the new car will make us stand out from the crowd. We think that our next greatest post on Instagram and Facebook will get more likes and comments than our last post. It will turn heads towards us. We want people to see us. We want people to know that we exist. We want to feel loved. We want to feel accepted. We don’t want to be ignored. We don’t want to be rejected. Am I right? Being rejected, ignored, and pushed to the side makes us feel like we are the last person on earth that no one will ever care about. Our insecurities and negative thoughts get the best of us too, and we begin to think, would anyone even notice if I was gone?... …My friend and dear reader, you are not alone. You just want to be seen. You want to be heard. You want to be appreciated and known by someone who deeply cares about you, loves you, and pays attention to you. We sit and think, is it too much to ask from my friend, my intimate relationship, my church family, my coworkers, or my supervisor? Is it too much for them to see me, appreciate me, and care about me? No, absolutely not. We, as human beings, desire long-lasting and fulfilling relationships. We desire to be known, seen, and loved. It is a deep longing that all human beings experience. I want to remind us all of one specific truth today, however. Humans fail, and we cannot continually place our hope, trust, and love into a human being that will consistently fail us every single time. We cannot consistently believe that a human being will eventually come along to complete us, make us whole, make us happy, and fulfill that deep longing that we have had for years. The answer, my friends, is God.”
