About the Book
Moonshine & Sweet Tarts opens up a discussion most of us would rather not have. It’s about us. We are The Church of Christ -- and how we respond when the unthinkable happens is absolutely Critical!! We tell our story to help you understand yours. Too often, Christians point to Original Sin to explain why bad things happen. While this explanation has merit, we cannot use it when someone is in crisis. It’s not helpful. It’s insulting...and it’s damaging. There’s a better way. Eventually, we all face tough stuff in life; be it abuse from a spouse we never saw coming, a childhood that was tragic & traumatic, or an accident or illness we just can’t wrap our heads around. Many of us seek answers, possibly insight, from The Church community. Moonshine and Sweet Tarts is a reflection that focuses on this exact spot – The Church; and how we, as The Church, receive acute trauma. You may have experience with this. You may have been counseled with, “Adam and Eve ate a pomegranate. We live in a fallen world. That’s why your son has cancer.” This is not even an answer. It is an insult, and a dismissal of the legitimacy and extent of our personal trauma. Moonshine and Sweet Tarts shares the recovery-story of Les and Eli C. It’s raw. It’s candid. But it’s also funny, genuine, and relatable. Both Eli and Les bring multiplicity to the table in different ways. Eli is a Twin who lost his other half. Les has a diagnosis of DID; and experiences life as a collective. This is a book for you. The story of Eli & Les brings to the table a deep understanding of personal trauma. Through stories, and solid Scriptural truth, Eli & Les bring you something unexpected. It’s very possible, even likely, that The Church has failed to thoughtfully receive your trauma. Sadly, this is the kind of stuff that makes people leave The Church - permanently. Let’s discover together how we can approach this in a way that affirms the individual AND her creator!
