In the last message of God to humankind, chapter 2 starts with God showing himself to John and authorizing him to record what will happen. The beloved disciple understands that Jesus is not only the victorious but also the glorious one as he says blessed is the one who hears and reads the prophecy of this book (Rev. 1:3). God wants his children to discover the blessing reserved for those who receive this prophecy. The Apostle wants the receiver of the message always to be ready because the time is near. In the Bible knowledge commentary, Dr. J. F Walvoord and Roy B. Zuck believe that the blessings will be for the reader and the receiver. The Lord told John who the first receivers should be: the seven Churches of Asia Minor that was a province of Rome. In Chapter 1, verse 4, the life application bible commented that "the one who is, and who was, and who is to come" refers to the Trinity. And believe that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are sending this message to the seven Churches and humankind in general. In the salutation, Drs. Walvoord and Zuck think that peace and grace have a relationship between God and Christians. So, the seven, according to the same author, may refer to the Holy Spirit.
The one who commissions the Apostle John this message gives some precision on himself as the one who is "love us, faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the Earth. He is precise in the salutation in chapter 1:5, saying that he is the one who saves us and frees us from sin by his blood, the new international version of the Bible. In the commentary of the New Testament, Thomas Hale translated chapter 1:6 as follows: if the Israel people were the priest kingdom before, but by now, it is the Christians that play this role, glory for the one that made us a kingdom of the priest. The life application study bible adds in verse 6 that because we are a kingdom of priests, it is a sign that God assures our place. In verse 8 of chapter 0ne, Jesus will come as a glorious king, not the same as he was in the first coming but as the alfa and omega, and the beginning and the end. He will be the almighty, and all knees should be down before him.
Chapters 4 to 10 of this book underline a series of messages to seven Churches of Asia Minor, which exist and also represent churches throughout history, to let them know that they are not perfect, and that persecution will come, but because Jesus is in their midst, they need not to worry. This is why no power in the universe can break the church, Jesus is always in their Midst..
In Chapter 11, a group of events start right after the message to the Churches. After John finishes recording the message for the seven churches of Minor Asia, Apostle John starts a new section, which is the beginning of the sign of the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. In verse one of chapter four, the first thing that happens is a door that opens in Heaven. The Book of Revelations aims to show the Apostle John what will happen in the future (1:19). Now, chapter four starts with a vision of Heaven's throne where a voice like a trumpet says come to see what will happen next. When the Lord called John to follow him, he was seized by the Spirit of God and transported to Heaven to see God sitting on his throne. The event that the Lord wants shows John's demand to be removed from his human body because human sight cannot see it, so he was in Spirit. The Apostle sees twenty-four other thrones around the throne of God with twenty-four elders sitting with white dresses and gold crowns on their heads. There are many explanations for elders' identity, but scholars disagree. After the elders, John also sees seven lamps, which are the seven spirits of God. Most Scholars agree that the seven spirits refer to the Holy Spirit. Some theologians believe that the four living creatures represent the holiness of God. The prophet Ezechiel saw the same kind of creatures as John (Eze 1:5-10); the song that creatures sing is also a sign of the Holiness of God.
In chapter five, the vision continues, and John sees a scroll held in the right hand of God. He also sees a mighty angel looking for someone to open the book; the Apostle's biggest problem is that no one qualifies to open the book, even in Heaven or Earth. In this situation, John starts to weep; however, one of the twenty-four elders says that someone else is qualified; Jesus Christ is the only one qualified to open the scroll. The voice let John know that Jesus Christ is the one who overcame and precise that he is the lion of the Juda's tribe. Even though he looks like a lion, he is also the Lamb that was crucified. If he were a lamb on the first coming, in the second, he would be a lion in his second coming. The position of Lamb is in the middle of the throne, and around him, the elders and four living creatures. As John saw in the vision, seven horns and seven eyes are the seven spirits. If the horns represent power and authority, the seven spirits represent the Holy Spirit, which means Jesus has the physical and spiritual power to control the event that will come as written in the scroll. As the elders recognize Jesus as the one who qualifies, they fall and worship him and sing a song to say that Jesus is worthy to "take the scroll and open the seal." Cause of his sacrifice, he purchases people for God in all nations; all living creatures praise the Lord. And those he purchases continue to be a kingdom of priests for God, and "they will reign on earth." At the end of this chapter, we see that the four-leaving creatures join to say amen.
