Introduction
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was
without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And
the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said,
“Let there be light,” and there was light.
Genesis 1:1-3
God has been present since the beginning -before even the
beginning of time - and continues to be present in all of our lives; He is
omnipresent. God’s presence is visible not only in events in our lives, but
also visible in His creation. The national parks are a great example of
God’s beauty, while also giving proof of a young earth created by God in
six, 24-hour days. It’s incredible how we can see God in everything
around us. I look at a calendar and think of how amazing it is that our
concept of time (a week) started at the beginning of creation. I marvel at
the concept of automobiles and that someone’s brain, that God created,
thought of how to put together an engine, so sophisticated and strong. I
am marveled by the creation all around us and, in the national parks, we
are literally surrounded by God’s creativity. There is nothing like the
feeling of God’s presence all around us!
I hope this book not only brings clarification to those who are on
the fence on what to believe about the creation of the world, but also
encourages those who believe in a young earth to speak truth with the
facts… facts that are brought to light through this book. I also hope this
book brings a solid refute to secular scientists who stubbornly cling to
their beliefs and encourages them to consider creation-science evidence. I
second Rebecca McLaughlin who wrote in her book, Confronting
Christianity: 12 Hard Questions for the World’s Largest Religion, “My
hope in these pages is simply to offer a taste of the fruitful relationship
between Christianity and science–a relationship that gets submerged in
the popular discourse–and to suggest that belief in a rational Creator God
provides the first and best foundation of the scientific enterprise.”
This is the second book in the Praising God in the National Parks
book series. Book 1 is titled, Praising God in the National Parks: The
Four Corner States. This second book follows the same format and each
chapter starts with a short devotion to go along with each national park so
that, if you are like me and feel close to God in nature, you can use the
opportunity to give God the glory before, during, and after your visit to
the park. The book also goes through how the featured parks were
created through the lens of creation science, as well as some notes from
my own experience, favorite hikes, safety precautions, and, of course,
some pictures! Bring this book with you on your adventures, read it with
your family, friends, and fellow adventurous spirits, and please enjoy
each of the west coast national parks as much as I have.
