Love God, Love Yourself

Fearfully & Wonderfully Made ━•❖•━ “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Psalm 139:14 In this world, we are so quick to compare ourselves to one another, wishing we had what others had. The girl with straight hair wants curly hair and the girl with curly hair wants straight hair. We often want what we don’t have. It’s important to not let comparison and longing for what we don’t have distract us from what we do have with which God has blessed us. I started dancing at two years old and danced all the way through college where I was blessed to win three Division 1 National Championship rings. I have spent many hours in front of the mirror, and you can pretty much ask any dancer, and they will say at one point or another in their life they struggled with body dysmorphia like, “I wish my legs were skinnier like hers.” When I was in elementary school, I had to do a book report, and I chose the book Soul Surfer by Bethany Hamilton. Bethany was only thirteen when she lost her arm due to a shark attack. Whenever I am feeling insecure about my body, I go back to that story and quickly switch my mindset to praising God for what He has given me. I am grateful that I have arms and legs which allow me to move my body and get up and dance. “Comparison is the thief of all joy,” as President Theodore Roosevelt stated. Learn to be secure in yourself, count your blessings, and don’t take anything for granted. Today, instead of standing in front of the mirror and critiquing yourself, I encourage you to name at least one thing you like remembering God made you special as you are uniquely and wonderfully made.
