It Matters

Like many of us we've contemplated writing a book. I've thought about writing this for years. Should I write a book about a subject? Should I write a children's book? Do I tell my life story? As I've thought long and hard, I believe that I have been led to write my story. As I'm writing, I do so hesitantly for fear of oversharing. However, what I've learned over time is that the things we pride ourselves in can be our greatest downfall. In the past, I prided myself on being a logical man that is more than capable of making solid decisions. However, life proved me otherwise. As I look back, I recognize that I had not been “solid” in my decisions from friendships to romantic relationships, my decision making was sketchy. My life experiences have brought me to a different understanding and challenged me to walk more wisely. Nevertheless, I wouldn’t be able to share my story from the vantage point present in this book, had I not experienced my mistakes with unsound decision making. It matters that I tell my story for several reasons. First, I believe that many have similar experiences and are struggling to put words to them, hopefully my words will help. Second, it's therapeutic for me and gives space to share how gracious God has been to me through my lifetime. Finally, God has given me something to share as it pertained to the experience of him rescuing me from a really dark place in my life. As you are reading, you may experience me going back and forth with some of my thoughts. That was done purposefully, I wanted to embrace unpacking my emotions in the writings and allow this to be a part of my mental health journey. My prayer is that as I have unpacked, it will be a blessing to you to read and a motivation for unpacking your stuff as well. I believe that if we learn to be real with our stuff, it allows us to experience deeper intimacy with God and one another.
