I worked so hard and saved pretty much all my money. In my head, I was debating whether to return to Latvia. But there was nothing there, no apartment to live in. The money I made wasn’t enough to buy a place. I thought I could get Karina and move to Ireland where two of my brothers lived. But I was so used to America by then and saw how much potential the country had to offer for people who worked hard. Although I had to work low-paid jobs such as cleaning hotel rooms, house cleaning, working as a waitress and babysitting, I still could afford to pay for my own apartment, food and gas, and save some money to support Karina in Riga. If I would go back to Riga, there is no opportunities for me. I would start where I left off and all my hard work in USA would never pay off. I knew that Karina would have a much better life in USA and I could provide for her. I wanted to bring my daughter Karina to America.

About the Author
Angelika was born in 1979 in Riga, Latvia, and was raised during the Soviet Union. Although her family didn’t have much, her childhood was safe and fun. Unfortunately, she lost her parents at a young age and had many struggles. In 2001, she came to the United States for a chance to have a better future. What was meant to be only a summer job became an arduous five-year journey. She experienced many hardships, from learning a second language and working low-paying jobs to personal heartbreaks. Angelika’s journey is a testament to the Lord's providence. She pursued higher education and earned a degree in interior design. Today, she resides in Charleston, South Carolina, with her loving husband, three daughters, two cats, and two budgies. The beauty of the Lowcountry and the charming architecture of Charleston, reminiscent of Riga, bring her joy. She finds solace in nature, walking on the beach, and painting. In addition, she homeschools her two youngest children and explores the world with her family, all under the Lord's watchful eye. Her heart behind writing the book "Under His Wings'' is to share her life story and give glory to the Lord for His goodness. She hopes her life journey will inspire many women, her children, and future grandchildren to trust the Lord no matter what.
