“What can the opossum have to do with not sinning against God?”, I questioned. “I think he’s a great example for us. Think about this: when the opossum sensed danger, what did it do?”, asked Grandma. “It… it played dead! It wouldn’t do anything! It didn’t even look like it was breathing!”, I answered. Then I began to understand what Grandma was about to tell me. “So, the Bible is telling us in Colossians that when temptation comes into our way, we are to think of our bodies as dead to that temptation. If we see something that we may want even though it’s not right for us, we should close our eyes as if they are dead or can’t see. If we’re tempted to take something that doesn’t belong to us, we should imagine our hands are dead and unable to take the thing that we want. If we’re tempted to go somewhere that we know we shouldn’t go, we should picture our feet and legs incapable of walking.”, Grandma explained.

About the Book
Just Play 'Possum is the story of an actual event in the author's life that helped her to understand how to battle the temptations to sin that enter even a child's heart. By using the example of an opossum's playing dead when threatened by danger, the author wants to help children know how to respond when they are tempted to sin against God. This story illustrates the truth found in Colossians chapter three, giving children a practical approach for learning how to overcome sin and do what is pleasing to God.
About the Author
Sarah has been teaching children in the church setting since young adulthood. She is a pastor's wife, a mother, and is currently enjoying her grandchildren. She has always loved finding ways to teach children difficult biblical truths through common life circumstances like Jesus taught using the Parables. She believes children have much more potential to grasp faith principles than we often realize.
