Acts 26:24 At this point Festus interrupted Paul’s defense. “You are out of your mind, Paul!” he shouted. “Your great learning is driving you insane.” (NIV) Once again, Paul told his story. Festus faced the man who’d troubled all the Jews from Jerusalem to Corinth. Felix had left the trouble maker in prison for two years, discussing Paul’s hope in a dead Jew who wasn’t dead. Festus learned Paul defended himself well, showing he was familiar with both Roman and Jewish law. The old man who stood in front of him was a scholar who may have gone senile. With all the pageantry of the Roman court, Paul was allowed to defend himself. Losing his self-control, Festus tells Paul he’s crazy. You may not hear it, but people will think it when you tell them you believe a dead Jew is really alive. Not only that, He’s God. They may ignore you since they’ve heard it so much or try to blame the bad behavior of Christians during the past 2,000 years on you. In his Christian walk Paul was stoned, beaten, and threatened with starvation. He often traveled with Luke, a historian and doctor. With everything that’d happened to him, Paul may have needed a personal physician. Paul spent his whole life learning and teaching about Jesus. He never stopped. He reminds you that you should never stop either.
