Chapter 1
I love Honey. I know, it sounds like I may have a special liking for the sweet sticky nectar made by honeybees but I` m really referring to my grandmother. We call her Honey because she always finds a way to add sweetness to everything she does. I think sweetness is her superpower. Her real name is Katharine Olivia Parkshire.
Mom gave me Honey`s middle name, my name is Floral Olivia Battle. I luv`, luvvvv, that I have the same middle name as Honey. My grandfather`s name is Matthew James Parkshire, but we call him Grandpa Matt he is an amazing grandfather, they`re my mom`s parents, they live in a small town named Marigold in Georgia.
Here`s a few other preliminaries I have to get out of the way so I can move along and tell you about my epic summer. Here we go…
Mom`s name is Purpose Jean Battle, I know cool first name, right? Honey told Mom she is to remember God put her on the earth for a purpose. Whatever she`s been called to do its part of her DNA. Mom has her own hair salon. I guess maybe her purpose is connected to glam, beauty and making people feel good. I`ve seen some of her clients walk in sad but leave patting their hair and smiling. Anyway, Mom tells me the same except she says, nothing I can do can erase the calling on my life. I`m fascinated by that word, calling.
My Dad`s name is Henry Paul Battle, his nickname is Blue, only close friends call him Blue. He is an electrician and works for himself. I love that he can make his own schedule. Mom always says Dad`s calling is to cause light to shine in dark places and that`s as close to God`s work as you`ll ever get. I`d agree.

About the Book
Eleven-year-old Floral Battle always looks forward to the family`s annual summer vacation to visit her mom`s parents in Marigold, Georgia. It’s usually two weeks in length, but this year, it’s only one, and Floral knows it’s just not enough. She can’t imagine how she’ll spend the summer and doesn’t see camp as an option. She wants an epic summer.
Her mom often says, “Use your critical thinking skills.” That`s exactly what Floral does. She concocts a strategy to convince her parents to let her spend the summer, alone, with her grandparents. If she’s successful, her summer might be filled with evenings sitting inside her grandparents’ screened, back porch watching the lightening bugs flicker while hearing the cicadas sing. But the likelihood of a normal summer is slim; her grandparents’ diner has a history of being linked to unusual events.
About the Author
Tammy Tucker is a wife and mother of three with a love for God. She enjoys journaling, singing, and spending time with family and friends. She’s an avid reader and promoter of literacy after her oldest child successfully navigated the public school system. Prayerfully, and with the support of her husband, Tammy homeschooled their two younger children until one reached middle school and the oldest entered high school.
