Often, we focus too much on outer beauty. When riding by a house, we may admire the windows, doors, and shutters, but a house's most vital part is what you cannot see. While not visual, it is essential for the structure's endurance. It’s called the foundation. Hearing the truth but not obeying it results in a weak foundation for life. Jesus called it "sand," which inevitably collapses under pressure. Just as you would never construct your house on sand, how much more should you guard against building your life on it? Ignoring the truth leaves you unprepared and vulnerable. Hearing but not obeying the Word will prove costly. James addressed this when writing, But don't just listen to God's word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. James 1:22 NLT Jesus' closing illustration amplifies his focus by highlighting the similarity between two men; they each built a house. Each man had a place where he could sleep and eat. But both houses were not prepared. You may say, "Prepared for what?" Storms. A strong foundation does not exempt you from life storms but will equip you to weather them. Do you want to build a resilient life? Sure you do. Resilience is being able to withstand the howling winds and downpours of life. Pictures of the aftermath of hurricanes and tornados remind us of the power of these storms and the devastation they bring. Yet, at times, a visual reveals a tree or home amid the debris still standing. Jesus says your life can be like that. No matter how hard the winds blow or how high the waters rise, you can still be standing after the storms pass. Your life can be, according to Jesus, windproof.
