The Chase
My little grandson's on the run and I'm not far behind
While I want to give him liberty; safety is on my mind.
He's new to balance, new to walking, new to bumpy ground too
So I am here when he needs help; I keep him close in view.
Even when I don't reach him in timeI'm there to pick him up
And I'm there to redirect him if there's danger to interrupt.
As he grows he'll need this less, though there'll be lots of spills
But loving him I always give chase as I choose to do his will.
I am walking on a rocky road and don't know how to go
The Lord is right behind urging me to take it slow.
He always keeps me in his sight though he lets me go ahead
It's his goodness and mercy that follows me wherever, as he said.
Sometimes I start to stumble and it's then he steadies me
Jesus sees the places I could trip; he protects me tenderly.
As I've matured I have learned better how he wants me to walk
Yet he gives chase all of my days and guides my steps with loving talk.

a child of God. She is a retired Respiratory erapist. She is the
author of A Poet’s Path published in 2020 and a Facebook blog,
“Poetry by Norah.” For as long as she can remember she has
written to make sense of the world she lives in. Armed with faith
and her trusty pen she invites you to join her as she addresses
things seen, unseen and imagined.
