Short Stories of Jesus

A caravan was leaving for Judah the next day and my father had made arrangements for me to travel with them. Elizabeth was overjoyed to see me and she said her baby jumped for joy when she heard my voice. After we had both worshipped the Lord, we had a long talk. She told me about Zacharias’ vision and about their baby. God had already told her that I was giving birth to Israel’s Messiah. Her talks convinced me that everything was going to be all right. I stayed until John was born and was named it seems strange that my cousin Zacharias started to talk as soon as the baby was named. Then when I returned home I conferred with my mother and father about what to do concerning Joseph. We all agreed to go visit and tell them what had happened to me. We went early in the morning and found them ready for the day’s labor. My father began by saying he was glad we were such good friends. Immediately I could see a suspicious look on Jacobs’s face. Father also said he was proud to have Joseph as a son. I could see my mother wringing her hands and looking very uneasy. Suddenly she blurted out Mary is going to have a baby! Everyone there was speechless. Finally, Joseph said, “Whose baby are you having Mary?” Then I explained what had happened to me. The whole family tried to be polite to us but must get to work. We would talk again later when we had time to think about it. A few days later Joseph came to our house he sure had a puzzled look on his face he said he wanted to talk to me. We walked outside while my mother was doing the dishes. Joseph said he had been thinking of giving me a bill of divorce in private so as to not cause any more shame on me and my family. His family also agreed that this was the way to handle the situation. Then he asked me what I was going to name the baby. I told him Jesus was the name the angel of the Lord had given me. A smile came over his face as he told me that God had spoken to him in a dream and also told him to name the baby Jesus for, he shall save his people from their sins. He said he wanted me to be his wife and come and live with him because he loved me. He said he would not doubt my word anymore. Oh, how great is my God for choosing such a wonderful man to be my husband and to be a father to the son of God? Praise the Lord.
