REAL AWARENESS OF GOD IN EVERY THOUGHT
The Spirit uses David through his Psalms to give us a level of power in our thinking that will completely transform our business leadership. We tend to think if God connects with a business, He connects from the outside like some kind of lightning strike. In reality, the wonderful and amazing truth is that He actually connects with a business through His engagement within the thought-life of business leaders. As we actively recognize God's engagement here-in our thoughts, where words and actions begin-we will be excited each moment as we experience God working through our hearts to touch our businesses very practically. From David's inspired leadership, we can see how powerfully this can work.
David's awareness of God in his thoughts
Sometimes we rationalize that God is only in the thoughts to which we invite Him, or He is only there when we are aware of His presence as we think. In Psalm 139, David understands and expresses the truth that God is in the midst of every thought-even before the thought is expressed as language: "You understand my thought from afar. You scrutinize my path and my lying down, And are intimately acquainted with all my ways. Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, O LORD, You know it all." David was inspired to see that God was in all his thoughts as he led Israel to great conquests and as he managed God's people. What a great comfort David had as he considered the magnitude of his responsibilities! What encouragement as he realized the impact that God's participation in all his thoughts would have on God's people and God's purposes as those thoughts led to actions in leading God's enterprise.
Is this a thought invasion?
If your reaction to the truth that God almighty is in the midst of your every thought is fear, denial, and/or futile resistance, then you miss the blessing God intends for you. The image you have of God's presence in your every thought may resemble God as some sort of security guard, who invades your mental privacy by monitoring a bank of TV screen images, taking notes on all your thought activity and keeping records for a future accounting. This is not what the Spirit tells us through David in Psalm 139.
Instead, the image should be of your intimate Father who loves you unconditionally and beyond any ability to measure. David clearly expressed in Psalm 139 this concept of God's love and care in the midst of each thought. While expressing his awareness of God's knowledge of the details of every thought, David also says in verse 4, "You have enclosed me behind and before, and laid Your hand upon me." While God is engaged in every thought, His infinite love and sovereign power have everything covered around you. With His participation in each of your thoughts, God almighty has "enclosed [you] behind and before" with His protection, and He has "laid His hand upon [you]" with all His love and care.
Inside each of your thoughts you are loved, protected, and cared for, consistent with Christ's work at Calvary. The Spirit tells us in Romans 5:8, "But God demonstrates His own love toward us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Christ's infinite and unconditional love was demonstrated at Calvary, but it didn't stop at Calvary. The personal love for you so evident when Jesus hung on the cross was a demonstration of God's exact same love He has for you in the midst of your each and every thought. As a thought flashes through your mind in this very moment, God is loving you with the same intensity of unconditional love that He had for you personally at Calvary.
You don't have to get the thought right or make it proper in order for God to love you that way. His love is just there with that thought, as surely as His presence is there. While you were still a sinner, Christ died for you to demonstrate the kind of love He would have for you eternally. And now, while you yet have a sinful thought, Christ is just as much there in that thought with His infinite and unconditional love, so perfectly demonstrated and proven at Calvary. He demonstrated it. He proved it. So you would have faith His love really is there now, in the thought that you are having right now, and in the next moment. Enjoy His proven, unconditional, infinite love in the thought you're having right now. It's there for you . He's there with that love right now and so on for the rest of your life! Amazingly, from Psalm 139, we know that David understood the engagement of God almighty in his thought-life, with all His love and care-and it transformed his leadership from the core of his being.
THIS AWARENESS CHANGES EVERYTHING
This awesome and overpowering truth is almost incomprehensibly great! In fact, as David meditates on God's presence in his thoughts with His unconditional love and care he says, "Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is too high, I cannot attain to it." Faith in the way He loves you within each of your thoughts should make you feel the same way; it's just "too wonderful" for each one of us! Such knowledge is so wonderful that it transforms your countenance. Such knowledge of God's unconditional love in the midst of each and every thought compels us to God. It compels us to welcome and embrace His presence in our business thoughts. And this awareness of God's presence in our thought-life changes our mental set-up as we begin thinking about the issues of our business.
