I could hardly wait to get home! I ran into the yard yelling, “Look what I found! Look what I found!”
Reuben came running. I handed him the bat. He took a few swings. “Wow! That's a great bat!” He ran to the window, held up the bat and said, "Mom, look at this bat! Wilf found it!" Mom smiled.
"Where did you find it?" she asked.
"He found it on the way home from school, "Reuben answered for me.
"But where was it?" Mom prodded.
"Just lying on the ground,"I answered truthfully. And that was it.
I'd passed the test. No more questions. I was a hero!

About the Author
Wilf Pauls has encouraged thousands of children in their love of learning through stories, magic, science experiments, music, trivia, and real-life experiences. Together with his wife Pearl, he has worked in British Columbia, Yukon Territory, West Germany and the Democratic Republic of Congo. In a career that has spanned four decades he has worn many hats: classroom teacher, principal, science specialist, music teacher, camp director and Teacher Librarian. After authoring two “Baby Brawn Superstar” books and “Fweddy the Wed Fwog Pwince”, it is time to put into print a true baseball experience that has been the most effective oral story in Wilf’s expansive repertoire. Today Wilf plays more table tennis than baseball, but hearing the crack of a baseball bat is still electrifying!
