God Pleasers

We live in a culture where self-seeking behavior is applauded, sought after, and viewed as a high priority. Some go so far as to think our purpose on earth is to take part in all that brings pleasure. Their life motto is pleasure at all costs. This is not surprising since this train of thought has been ingrained in most of us since we were young. We are literally being bombarded by it from every direction, including the entertainment industry, social media, and the education system. We often hear comments such as “live for pleasure” or “do what feels good.” And if we are honest, many of our decisions are based on whether something gives us pleasure. If it doesn’t, we have no problem replacing it with something that will.

Not surprisingly, this same way of thinking has been transferred into our relationship with God. We expect to snap our fingers at him and He becomes our personal genie. When the answers don’t come fast enough or the way we want them, we walk away from God without a second thought. As a result, we end up missing out on everything that is true, real and good; all because we have believed the lies of living life for our own pleasure and self-seeking gratification. In other words, we have become a “me” society. We take advantage of people left and right in order to meet our needs or whims. How else can we explain most violence and crime taking place on our streets, other than a person wanting something at all costs?
