Even with all the early chances and even more time due to being retired, the broken ankle and the cancer were the catalyst that made me aware the roles would change and turn my life upside down. That’s when I started using my three-by-five white cards to learn about Janet’s roles. Lesson learned. Take time to do this before your spouse passes. My hope and prayer for writing this is to help you prepare for this and make your life a little bit less stressful. I know that every relationship has different roles, every house has different appliances, financial situations can be extremely complex or relatively simple, and everyone has their own personal beliefs. Now is the time, while you still have your expert with you, to teach each other as much as you can. Is it a little bit scary? Yes. Can it be intimidating? Yes. Is it absolutely necessary? Yes. Can you, do it? Yes! You have an expert next to you to teach you everything he or she knows.
