About the Author

Minister Dennis J. Godfrey’s Autobiography

Born on the 23rd of September, to the parents of Henry Lee and Pearline Godfrey. He is the 3rdoldest, but the oldest son of the eight children produced by his parents. Born in the housing projects of Chicago, located at 1410 West 14th Street. His parents later moved to another housing project, Raymond Hillard Homes on 22nd street, on the Southside of Chicago. This is where it all started to happen. The family became Christians, led by their mother, better known as Dolly. She converted the family over to Christianity and began to hold prayer meetings with the family at night.

I was only seven years old when it all happened. It was during one night during the family’s prayer meeting. The Spirit of the Lord moved upon my mother, and she began to prophesy and lay hands. She laid hands on me and said, “the Spirit of the Lord was upon me, and there was a calling upon my life, I would be a minister for the Lord.” It was after this, I began to study and enjoy reading the Bible. I became an ordained minister and began to teach the word after becoming Sunday School Superintendent.

I ‘ve been a minister for over 30 years. Married to my wife Sarah for 38 years. I have two children, my eldest is my son DJ and next would be my daughter Candyce. I have a 3-year-old granddaughter affectionally known as Cupcake. My daughter and granddaughter both reside in North Carolina

My father later began to pastor a church, Christ Revival Center. I acted as the assistant Pastor with my father. After my mother died, my father disbanded the church. I moved my membership to St. James C.O.G.I.C, where Bishop Campbell was the pastor. I later became the Sunday School Supt. It was over 10 years I served in this position. While working for the bank, I also started what was known as “Corporate Bible study.” This went very well, many would take their lunch and attend the study of the Sunday School Lesson for that week. It was well attended by many. I also began to improve upon my study the word of God and later attended Grace Theological Seminary, where I received both my bachelor’s and master’s degree in the Bible.
