In December, Daria and Elena entered a small village in Romania carrying brightly-wrapped packages. Word spread fast of their arrival and a curious crowd gathered around. Daria noticed a shivering child standing on a barrel, balancing on her tip-toes, trying to see the gifts. She made her way to the child and handed her the last one! It was wrapped in pretty paper with a shiny, gold bow. Rodica thanked the woman, clutched the box to her chest and ran home.
The family gathered in their one-room hut and everyone took turns holding the package, admiring the wrapping and guessing what was inside. Rodica was bursting with excitement! Afraid she would rip the paper, Rodica asked her mama for help. She gently removed the shiny, gold bow, tipped it on its side, and placed it on a shelf. About the Book
Rodica lives with her family in a small village in Romania. A simple act of kindness, from a person they have never met, saves her family. Rodica’s red scarf and her selfless sharing helps her family triumph through the seasons as they thank God for the someone somewhere who made the scarf that showed they cared.
Rodica’s Red Scarf’s message is timeless and many families have made it a tradition to read it on Christmas and/or Valentine’s Day.
About the Author
Kim's writing speaks to children and adults alike encouraging them to look for ways to help others and to thank God for the small blessings in life. She adopted her son from Romania in 1991 and her daughter from Ukraine in 1994. The setting for Rodica's Red Scarf is not fiction and neither is how it arrived in the small village of Romania.
Kim has her masters degree in special education and has a heart for teaching children of all ages. She is a writer who lives in Cape Cod, Massachusetts and enjoys visiting schools to share her book and personal experiences while in Romania and Ukraine. God, family, close friends and all the beauty Cape Cod has to offer, are near and dear to her heart.
