The book of Daniel is important for anybody who wants to understand Bible prophecy and the events that will mark the end of the ages. Many of the prophecies in the book of Revelation are extensions and expansions of some of those in Daniel. Consequently, without a knowledge of the content of Daniel, a thorough understanding of Revelation is impossible. The book is also a message of comfort and hope both for Israel and the church. Israel is assured that God will not leave them in captivity but that he will bring them out as he had promised. They were to suffer persecution under Antiochus Epiphanes and under the antichrist in the last days. In Chapter 12, God reveals that Michael the angelic protector will protect his covenant people, Israel. The antichrist is predicted to be the world last persecutor of Jews and Christians, but again divine deliverance for the saints is promised by the hand of Christ himself. In chapter 7 God reveals to Daniel that eventually the kingdom of men will be given to the saints of God.
