The Three Lights

Suddenly, above the trees in the backyard, appeared these three star-like lights in the sky! Slowly, they drifted toward us against the beautiful blue sky with little to no clouds in sight. They were so beautiful; we could do nothing but stop and stare! The kickball game ended as soon as it began.
I was only eight or nine at this time, yet these lights have been ingrained inside my memory to this day. The lights were three different sizes, shaped like stars. They all moved in a pyramid-like direction, the largest light being in the middle and leading the way. The medium-size light was to its left, and the smallest-size light was to the right. They seemed to glide across the skyline high above the trees, coming toward us. As they came in our direction, they got lower and lower, each one in a slow bouncy rhythm with no sound. Their center was a bright white light, yet all the colors of the spectrum came from that bright center, radiating out to a point and starting again on another side of its bright white center. Multiple points of light all shone at the same time. It was just the most beautiful, brilliant thing I have ever seen in my life. I have no memory of them being right above us, which is puzzling to me because I can clearly remember watching them go over the trees that were across the street, floating away from us but never landing, getting higher and higher until they continued out of sight! Most people would say I saw aliens or an extraterrestrial sighting; some may say it was a spiritual encounter. Either way, every day of my life, I have thought of that day and those three beautiful star-like lights and am amazed at how they have repeatedly been the backdrop for my sense of believing in my life, starting with my foundation.

About the Author
Horace H. Johnson is a retired grandfather of seven and a father to five grown men. He served four years in the US Air Force as a police officer before joining the Postal Service, where he worked for twenty-eight years. He served on the Salem, NJ City Board of Education for seven years and eight years on the Salem City Council. He coached several sports as a young father and helped start Fathers United of Salem County to help fathers improve their parenting skills.
